Vigilance Sleuths Seize Rs 2 Cr From Senior Govt Official’s Home
Rout was reportedly caught red-handed throwing the bundle of notes nicely wrapped in packets on the neighbourhood terrace as he got a whiff of the vigilance raid.
Reports said the vigilance team confiscated the note from the neighbour’s flat who were seen collecting the packets from the terrace.
“We seized six cartons of ₹500 currency notes from his house which he had recently managed to get in exchange for ₹2000 notes. We have so far found ₹2 crore in cash but there could be more in his other houses. By the end of the day we would know about his illegal income,” said a senior vigilance official who led the probe.
Raids were carried out simultaneously by the anti-vigilance team at nine different locations including his ancestral house in Bhadrakh after getting allegations of accumulation of assets disproportionate to his known source of income. The quantum of the notes recovered led the vigilance team to engage the money counting machine.
