New Delhi, Oct 27: The salt-to-software conglomerate Tata Group will begin manufacturing the Apple iphone in India, Electronics and Technology Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar announced on Friday on the sidelines of the India Mobile Congress.
The announcement was made after Apple supplier Wistron Corporation disclosed that it is selling its India unit to Tata Electronics.
Tata Electronics will begin producing the iphones in the coming two and half years, the Minister said from his X handle.
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal had earlier this year said that Apple exported ₹ 41,200 crore worth of goods from India in 2022, and intended to produce 25 per cent of global units in the country within the next four to five years.
