Heavy Rain Lashes Twin-Cities; Several Areas Inundated
Bhubaneswar, Sept 7: The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack were lashed by heavy rain on Thursday afternoon, inundating roads, low-lying areas and causing traffic snarls.
The heavy rain, according to the Indian Met Meteorological Department (IMD) was triggered because of a cyclonic circulation that has over central parts of interior Odisha & adjoining Chhattisgarh.
The rainfall activity is expected to come down from tomorrow onwards as the circulation is likely to move west-north-westwards and over central parts of Madhya Pradesh subsequently.
Between June and September 7, the state has received 867.9 mm rainfall as against the normal value of 984.9 mm rainfall, said IMD, adding that 20 districts have received normal rainfall while the rest 10 are experiencing deficit rainfall.
The rain, even if it has ended a long spell of dry weather and averted a drought-like situation in many parts of the state, has exposed the tottering civic infrastructure, especially in the twin cities.
