BMC Readies Plan to Tackle Dengue: Monitoring Panel for Each Ward

Bhubaneswar, June 29: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken proactive measures to combat dengue as part of its robust preparedness strategy.

BMC Commissioner presided over a dengue prevention awareness meeting held at the Ekamra Hall of BMC and it was emphasized that a collective effort involving BMC staff, doctors, health officers, sanitary inspectors, agencies, ward officers, Anganwadi workers, Asha workers, sanitation workers, and sanitation supervisors is crucial to tackle dengue. The focus is on raising awareness from school students to citizens, particularly at the grassroots level.

In order to monitor the situation closely, each ward will establish an observation committee. This will oversee various areas within the ward, including residences, roofs, and potential breeding grounds such as waterlogging areas, tyre servicing shops, fallen garbage cans, flower pots on rooftops, wells, and water tanks. It will promptly identify and eliminate any breeding sites by disposing of stagnant water and spraying mosquito repellents.

The Commissioner emphasized the importance of vigilant monitoring and swift action by volunteers and workers affiliated with the health department, BMC, Women and Child Development Department, resident welfare associations, self-help groups (SHGs), and ward core committees. If any mosquito breeding is observed in waterlogging areas, bushes, or heavily grassed areas, immediate attention and cleaning measures should be undertaken.

By implementing the preventive measures like cleaning standing water, garbage, bushes and other spots with possible breeding of dengue mosquito, BMC aims to protect the health and well-being of the community.

To support a mass clean-up effort, all institutions and organisations have been directed to inspect non-functional vehicles, as they can accumulate stagnant water and contribute to mosquito breeding. Dengue is a viral disease, and it is crucial to raise awareness among citizens to prevent its spread.

The Commissioner highlighted the need for individuals to cultivate a habit of vigilance and awareness.

City health officers have been assigned the task of closely monitoring dengue patients to prevent further spread of the disease.

Additionally, zonal deputy commissioners will conduct meetings with school headmasters to educate students about dengue prevention. A "Mo Ward" meeting will be organized to raise awareness about the disease, and efforts will be made to identify dengue hotspot areas and enhance group coordination to prevent its spread.

Suspected dengue cases will be directed to designated medical facilities where volunteers will facilitate blood tests.
