Top Cops Interact With Institutions to Stop Drug Abuse Among Students
Bhubaneswar, July 19: Top Cops under the Twin Cities Commissionerate of Police organised an “Interaction with educational institutions to counter threat of drug abuse among students” at the Police Commissionerate, Bhubaneswar Headquarters today to create awareness and the Do’s and Don’ts on drug addiction.
The programme was graced by Commissioner of Police Soumendra Priyadarshi, Additional Commissioner of Police Dr. Umashankar Dash, Additional Secretary, Department of Social Security and Empowerment of persons with Disabilities (SSEPD), Government of Odisha Dillip Kumar Bal as SSEPD is the nodal department for drug de addiction of the State, Deputy Secretary, Higher Education Department, Government of Odisha Ramesh Chandra Behera, DCP Prateek Singh and well-known Psychiatrist Dr. Amrit Pattajoshi. Official heads of various educational institutions of the city numbering about 150 along with senior police officers attended the programme.
Discussion was held relating to Do's and Don’ts in the educational institutions to stop Drug Addiction.
DO'S:
• Awareness programme to be conducted on intervals
• Regular checking in hostel/mess on campus to check smoking of drugs/ganja
• Immediate notice to the guardian on drug addiction by any students.
• Creating awareness about drawbacks of drug addiction and its threats.
• Installation/erecting of boards on awareness of drug addiction at prominent places.
• Proper counselling to the drug addicted students.
• A Formation of committee on drug addiction and eradication and immediate action.
• Proper scrutiny by the security guards on each entry gates of campus.
• Installation of CCTV on entry/exit gates with watch and guard.
• Installation of proper lighting and CCTV camera in secluded corners.
• Keeping watch over such gatherings and feasts in campus.
• Outsiders /Non-students should not be allowed inside
• Any kind of Tobacco/cigarette should be prohibited inside campus.
• Don't take lenient view on drug addiction by students.
• Entry/exit gate of campus/institution should not be unnamed.
Earlier, on June 26 an awareness programme and rally was conducted on the occasion of International Day Against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking which was joint venture with Excise Department. `` Say No to Drugs & Yes to Life” an empowering Anti-Drugs Drive by motorcycle riders was also held campaigning on June 25.
To curb down the activities of drug trafficking, a drive was initiated against drug peddlers with name and Style as “Operation White Spider” since August- 2021 in Bhubaneswar Urban Police District. A dedicated WhatsApp number 70777-98111 has also been issued by Bhubaneswar Police to share information about drug peddlers inside the Temple City.
