Bhubaneswar, July 26: President Droupadi Murmu has an interaction with the members of Atut Bandhan at Raj Bhawan and wished the students undertaking medical education with a spirit to serve the mankind.

The medical students who are from challenging financial backgrounds but are being helped by the Atut Bandhan initiative and pursuing their medical education, were there and exchanged their ideas with the President. Odisha Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal and founder of the initiative Pritish Chandra Basa were present.

Atul Bandhan, a philanthropic initiative was started on May 15, 2022 with the aim of building relationships for life with meritorious but needy students of Government-run medical colleges through financial assistance by willing sponsors. The initiative was started by retired banker Pritish Basa and was supported by three doctors, namely, Dr Saroj Das Majumdar (Prof AIIMS Bhubaneswar), Prof Biswajit Mishra (Paediatrician & Prof Hi-Tech Medical College, Bhubaneswar) and Dr Jami Sagar Prusty (Prof & Head of Department of Anatomy, MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur) to take it forward.

The ambitious target was to assist 50 students within a year of its launch. The magic number was achieved on February 18,2023, about three months before the targeted date. The sponsors include a large number of individuals, both from India and abroad and also a few corporate.

 The unique feature of the initiative is that is does not have any financial dealing nor does it accept any funds from the sponsors. The sponsors send money directly to the accounts of the students who seek the assistance and the sponsor and the students has regular interactions at their levels.

Atut Bandhan, through this noble initiative aims to create doctors with a sense of dedication and empathy who could serve the mankind with compassion. On the whole, it intends to create good, compassionate and responsible human beings and citizens. The students who are under the initiative have committed to support needy medical students unhesitatingly as they and when they have a decent income of their own.
