Upcoming Odia Varsity Could Start Functioning By September

Bhubaneswar, July 25: The proposed Odia University at Puri is expected to start functioning from September 5, with the Finance Department slated to clear a proposal for the creation of the teaching and non-teaching staff.

According to reports quoting the minutes of the meeting held on June 30, Chief Secretary Pradeep Kumar Jena stressed the officials for completing the process of the appointment of the vice-chancellor, university registrar and comptroller of finance. The controller of examination will be appointed subsequently.

The University is being set up on 25 acres of land at Satyabadi in Puri district, the foundation stone of which was laid by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in October 2018. The varsity will promote research in higher studies in Odia language and literature. Besides, it will offer research activities in various subjects on language, literature and historical scripts.

The faculties of the Odisha Education Service will be deputed to the university by the Higher Education Department. The Department will also form a syllabus committee to finalise the syllabus and prepare a study plan.

Reports said a committee will also be constituted for the constitution of an editorial board for the publication of peer-review research journals. The Odisha Computer Application Centre (OCAC) will set up a digital library in the proposed university.
