Wife Leaves Home, Irked Over Husband’s Craving For Tomatoes

Bhopal, July 13: The record retail price of the juicy tomato has upset the home budget, so much so that a wife left for her sister’s place, irked over her husband’s craving for the humble tomato.

The incident apparently happened in the Shahdol district of Madhya Pradesh. Media reports quoting the local police said that Aarti was peeved with her husband because he had used two tomatoes for a dish while cooking without consulting her. Her husband Sandeep Burman owes an eatery.

She left in a huff with her little kid, leaving her husband dumbstruck. Sandeep searched every quarter of the town before lodging a missing complaint with the police. The police managed to trace her to her sister’s place in Umaria. The police have managed to persuade her to return.

The incident, though, bizarre in nature, highlights the impact of food inflation in the households, even if the high tomato price is being described as seasonal in nature.

The Centre on Wednesday assured that the tomato prices are expected to come down in the “near future”, informing in a statement that it will launch an initiative for immediate procurement of tomatoes from the producing states and distribution among the major consumption centres where the retail price of the vegetable has hit the roof.
