WHO Says India Can Prevent 46 Lakh Death Every Year Only If.., More Here

A groundbreaking report by the World Health Organization (WHO) has revealed that India has the potential to prevent a staggering 4.6 million deaths by the year 2040 if half of its hypertensive population can effectively manage their blood pressure. This marks the first-ever comprehensive assessment of the global impact of hypertension by the WHO.

According to the report, a staggering 188.3 million individuals in India are currently grappling with hypertension, a condition characterized by elevated blood pressure. Shockingly, only 37 per cent of this massive cohort are even aware of their hypertension status. Globally, an estimated 33 per cent of the world's population is living with hypertension, with just over half having received a formal diagnosis.

"High blood pressure kills. Cardiovascular diseases are the world's leading cause of death. I know the dangers of hypertension from personal experience because it is a condition I live with. I am fortunate that I was diagnosed, and have access to good medical care, and medicines… Unfortunately, the same is not true for the majority of those with hypertension, a disease that is often dubbed the silent killer, " said Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the WHO, who emphasized the severity of the issue.

Hypertension presents a multifaceted challenge at every stage, from the initial diagnosis to the commencement of treatment and, most critically, the successful control of blood pressure. Experts concur that addressing these challenges is of paramount importance in the battle against this pervasive health threat.
