Bhubaneswar, July 18: Management of monsoon woes due to incessant rains and quality sanitation service in all parts across the State Capital should be the top priority of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange has alerted all officials of the civic body to remain vigilant throughout the rainy season.

Taking stalk of the situation in a meeting at the Ekamra Hall under the BMC-ICOMC Tower yesterday, Kulange called all sanitation officials to be alert and not to allow anyone to go near drains and throw waste into the water channels. He also urged them to do barricading of the structures where proper fencing is not available.

He also asked the officials to check the water passages near the road and check their filters and make way if water is not passing through with ease. They will also see that not a single local resident would ever be disposing waste into the drain and the violators would be punished with severe penalties.

The cleaning agencies working across the city were also asked to keep stress on removing garbage from the ``Garbage Vulnerable Point’’ (GVP) so that in case of rains there would be no issues in the locality. The Commissioner also warned the sanitation agencies, their supervisors and staff to follow the strict guidelines of the civic body that there would be no issues regarding coordinated approach to keep the city clean and green. Pump sets will also be kept so that on any situation they could be deployed when needed.

FOOD QUALITY

The BMC Commissioner has also asked the City Health Officer, food quality inspectors and food inspectors to check the food quality and take strict actions. The neglect on part of the food sellers would invite strict action including suspension of the Food License.

``Sanitation is not only cleaning streets across the city, we have to evolve beyond the psyche and work accordingly with a holistic approach to keep the city clean and green,’’ said Kulange.
