Justice Subhasis Talapatra to Become Next Chief Justice of Orissa High Court
Cuttack, July 6: Justice Subhasis Talapatra, Judge of the Orissa High Court will become the next Chief Justice as a vacancy in the office of the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court would come up during August 2023, with the retirement of Dr Justice S. Muralidhar, the current Chief Justice.
The Collegium (Supreme Court of India) has recommended the name of Justice Subhasis Talapatra. Earlier, Justice Talapatra was elevated as a Judge of the Gauhati High Court way back on November 15, 2011. However, when a separate High Court started functioning in 2013, Justice Talapatra opted for the High Court of Tripura. Later, he was transferred to Orissa High Court and has been functioning as a Judge since June 10, 2022.
Apart from declaring the next Chief Justice of Odisha, the Supreme Court Collegium has also recommended the names of Chief Justices for six other High Courts - Kerala, Manipur, Andhra Pradesh, Bombay, Telangana and Gujarat. The Supreme Court Collegium was headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud. Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Sanjeev Khanna passed the resolutions.
While Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya, judge of the Allahabad High Court, has been recommended for appointment as Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, Justice Alok Aradhe, judge of the Karnataka High Court, has been chosen for appointment as Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court.
Similarly, Justice Siddharth Mridul, judge of the Delhi High Court, has been given the recommendation for appointment as Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court. Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur, judge of the Bombay High Court, has been recommended for appointment as Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.
While Justice Sunita Agarwal, judge of the Allahabad High Court, has been recommended for appointment as Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court, Justice Ashish J Desai, Acting Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court, has been given the recommendation for appointment as Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court.
