ISKCON Bans It's Vice President Over Comments On Swami Vivekananda
Software engineer-turned Spiritual guru Amogh Lila Das has been banned by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) after his controversial remarks on Swami Vivekananda.
During a religious discourse recently, Das had expressed doubts over Vivekananda’s righteousness because of his fish-eating habits. In a video that has gone viral on social media, Das said that a person who consumes fish can never be virtuous. He also raised questions over Swamiji’s philosophy towards everyday life and his preachings such as playing football is more apt than reading Bhagwat Gita and that vegetables like brinjal satiate your hunger, not by consuming the holy tulsi leaves.
ISKCON was quick to denounce Das’ comments who is the vice president of ISKCON centre in Dwarka. In a statement issued it said that his comments were not a reflection of ISKCON’s values. “We condemn any form of disrespect and intolerance towards other religious beliefs and practices”.
It further said that it has banned Das for one month and that Das has apologised for his comments and begged for forgiveness. It said that Das will head for the hills during this period and seclude himself from public life.
