Centre Sanctions Rs 707.60 Cr To Odisha For Tackling Monsoon-Related Disasters

New Delhi, July 12: The Centre has sanctioned immediate funds to the states to the tune of Rs 7,532 crore in the wake of the monsoon-related floods and natural disasters. The funds have been released to the respective State Disaster Response Funds (SDRF).

Odisha has got Rs 707.60 crore, the second-highest disbursement among all the states. Uttar Pradesh has got Rs 812 crore.

According to a government statement, the funds have been released following the relaxation of guidelines that had mandated the furnishing of utilisation certificates of the last financial year for the release of new instalments. The Central Government contributes 75% to the SDRF.

The SDRF funds are earmarked for providing immediate relief to the victims of calamities like cyclones, drought, earthquakes, fire, floods, tsunamis, hailstorms, landslides, avalanches, cloud bursts, pest attacks and frost & cold waves.

Based on the 15th Finance Commission recommendations, the Central Government has allocated Rs. 1,28,122.40 crore for SDRF for the years 2021-22 to 2025-26.  Out of this amount, the Central Government’s share is Rs.98,080.80 crore, the government statement said.
