BMC Mass Cleanliness Drive Encourages Community Participation
Bhubaneswar, July 3: Team BMC lead by Mayor Sulochana Das along with Additional Commissioner Suryawanshi Mayur Vikash and local corporators assembled at AG Square of the Capital City yesterday morning and performed a mass cleanliness drive.
Subsequent to ``Dry Day'' on July 1, this drive also targeted source reduction besides cleaning and sweeping. The both side stretches from AG Square to Governor House Square were cleaned wall to wall where tree trimming, bush cutting and source reductions were done. Even 10 source reductions have been done in such important stretch. It is wise mentioning that broken flower pots and containers do carry water and such sources spread dengue.
``We can learn from such drive how important is source reduction for community members. Only BMC can not break the breeding cycle, citizens' proactive behavior to halt and reverse dengue is need of the hour,'' said Mayor Sulochana Das.
``BMC will continue such activities to encourage community members for enhancing city's livability indicators. Cooperation of community members and local leaders will make it a people driven initiative,'' added Additional Commissioner Suryawanshi Mayur Vikash. About 60 participants including Corporators, sanitation wing staff of BMC and team of Jagruti Welfare Organization took part in the drive.
