Guwahati Municipal Corporation Team Visits BMC, Takes Home Valuable Insights & Ideas
Bhubaneswar, September 12: A delegation of 12 individuals representing the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) embarked on a five-day visit to the vibrant city of Bhubaneswar, drawing inspiration from the exemplary practices of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC). During their stay in Bhubaneswar, the GMC team explored various facets of BMC's operations, ultimately aiming to emulate BMC's success in transforming urban living.
The GMC delegation began their journey by touring several key locations within Bhubaneswar, spending the past two days immersing themselves in the city's unique initiatives. Yesterday, they had the privilege of visiting the BMC headquarters, where they were accorded a warm welcome and felicitated by BMC officials.
Notable dignitaries present at the event included Mayor Sulochana Das, Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange, Additional Commissioner Laxmikanta Sethi, Subhendu Sahu, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Manoranjan Sahu, and other esteemed members of BMC.
During their visit, the GMC team had the opportunity to delve into BMC's distinctive work structures, including fecal plant management, MRF management, community involvement, women empowerment, city beautification, and environmental protection. Noteworthy visits included the Basuaghai's FSTP, STP Hatiasuni, wealth center, and MUKTA project, where they gained valuable insights into the city's sustainable practices.
Assistant Commissioner Trisahu Bipul Barua from GMC expressed his admiration for Bhubaneswar's lush greenery and pristine cleanliness. The GMC team praised BMC's efficient management of door-to-door waste collection and waste segregation, highlighting the community-centric approach and community mobilization strategies employed. Numerous inquiries were made regarding BMC's techniques for maintaining cleanliness and promoting green initiatives.
The Mayor emphasized the pivotal role played by the state government, BMC's dedicated team, responsible corporators, and the unwavering support of citizens in elevating Bhubaneswar to its current status. She called for increased awareness among citizens to uphold the city's cleanliness and greenery.
Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange acknowledged that BMC's success story was a result of the relentless efforts of BMC officials, staff, corporators, and proactive citizen participation. He emphasized the importance of effective coordination in achieving their goals.
Additional Commissioner Subhendu Kumar Sahu enlightened the GMC team about the historic decision made by the state government to provide land rights to slum dwellers and the various facilities extended to them.
The GMC team, led by Assistant Commissioner Ambarish Barua, Trisahu Bipul Barua, and Sanitation Officer Utpal Solemon Barua, expressed their gratitude for the warm hospitality and valuable knowledge shared by BMC during their visit.
