Mahanadi floods likely to hit 5 Dists: SRC Does Review of Situation
Bhubaneswar, August 3: Special Relief Commissioner Satyabrata Sahu took stock of the flood-like situation at the Emergency Operation Centre in the presence of all senior officials of the Revenue and Disaster Mitigation Department here this evening. According to a preliminary estimate 1.20 lakh people from 762 villages of 90 blocks, 66 wards of 17 NACs in 15 districts were affected.
Mahanadi waters at Naraj are rising resulting a speculation of flood in Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Kendrapada, Jagatsingpur districts, especially in low-lying plains. The district administrations of these districts were told to be on high alert. In the Mahanadi valley at Khairamal 4.72 lakh cusec, at Barmul 7.86 lakh cusec and Mundali 9.18 lakh cusec water is flowing. While at 5 pm near Mundali 9.18 lakh cusec water was flowing, it is remaining constant since 4 pm.
The water level at Akhuapada in Baitarani has shown rapid receding trend. While the danger level is 17.83 metres, the water is flowing at 19.44 metres. Likewise at Anandpur also the Baitarani river is flowing with a receding level. However, both Jajpur and Bhadrak district administrations were asked to be on alert.
At Jenapur while the danger level is at 23.00 metres, Brahmani is flowing at 22.20 metres. Today by 3 pm the water levels in Jalaka near Balasore was also receding.
Due to the flood situation following incessant rains due to the low pressure 6834 were evacuated to safer places and they were given dry and cooked food through 136 centres.
