President Congratulates Tata Memorial Centre, DAE for Their Efforts to Conquer Cancer in Odisha
Bhubaneswar, August 22: President Droupadi Murmu in a message has congratulated Tata Memorial Centre and Department of Atomic Energy for their efforts in supporting the Centre in its mission to win over cancer and especially for the projects in Odisha.
In her wishes, issued by the Rashtrapati Bhawan on August 18, President Droupadi Murmu said ``I am happy to know that construction of a branch of Tata Memorial Hospital will start soon in Jatni, Khordha to bring relief to the patients of Odisha and Eastern India. I am also pleased to note that the Tata Memorial Centre is launching the cancer awareness and early detection programme in Mayurbhanj with special focus on tribal population.’’
It can be noted here that the North Odisha district of Mayurbhanj will soon have a 50-bedded Cancer Centre on the campus of Pandit Raghunath Murmu (PRM) Medical College and Hospital. The centre will be established in collaboration with the Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital, Mumbai. The State Government has earmarked more than Rs 47 crore for the facility.
The new cancer centre will start its work from January 2024, but can be fully operational from July 2024. Additional Director (Non-Communicable Diseases) Dr Sushant Kumar Swain said ``by 2024 the cencer registry will start working at the centre and for this a five-membered high-level delegation from Tata Memorial Hospital has already arrived in Baripada and discussing the modalities with the administrative heads at the local medical college and hospital.
During the first phase the high-level team had met the authorities of the Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital, local CDMO and other senior Health and Family Welfare Department officials. The team also participated in a CME at Pandit Raghunath Murmu (PRM) Medical College and Hospital and also had a special meeting with Dr Ajit Kumar Mohanty, Chairman Atomic Energy Commission and Secretary DAE.
Tata Memorial Centre, a grant-in-aid institution under DAE has been engaged in Cancer Care and Control in India for the last 80 years. President Droupadi Murmu in her message has also added ``I would urge people to come forward for the early detection programme so that cancer can be detected at a curable stage.’’
