Dhenkanal, August 22:  Members of Dhenkanal Heritage Walks toured the Gajalxmi Palace situated at Borapada at the foothills of Megha, Dhenkanal on its 5th edition on Sunday.

The palace is a residence to Dhenkanal's Royal Family ascendant Ranendra Pratap Singh Deo, a scholar and nature lover and his son i Jitendra Pratap Singh Deo, who is an active heritage lover, nature conservator and have keen interest in sustainability of forests and elephants.

Gajalaxmi Palace also serves as a home-stay which attracts tourists from every part of world, who loves it's presence amidst nature and adventures. Ranendra Pratap Singh Deo briefed the heritage lovers about the history of the royal palace and Jitendra Pratap Singh Deo showed the nature around and it's beauty.

According to the palace sources the beautiful structure amidst nature was built in 1933 on the design by a British architect and its construction was completed in 1942. There are numerous old furniture, arms, traditional and local arms, guns and an attractive tiger head with its skin. In fact, during 1972 in the undivided Koraput’s Narayanpatna the tiger had killed 76 people and Ranendra Pratap Singh Deo killed it following a request from the State Government.

More than 25 heritage walkers joined the walk along with Convener Suresh Prasad Mishra and member of Cuttack Heritage Walks Biswaranjan Dehury among others. Educationst, journalist, poet, lecturer, AIR executive and many other professionals have joined the trail.
