Dengue Awareness: BMC Move to Launch Extensive Door-to-Door Campaign
Bhubaneswar, July 25 :Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched an extensive door-to-door campaign to raise awareness against dengue in the city. BMC Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange chaired a meeting at Ekamra Hall to kickstart the initiative.
The campaign will be led by a team consisting of area-specific doctors and health officers who will visit households to spread awareness. Commissioner emphasized starting the campaign in dengue hotspot zones within BMC as doctors' direct communication with residents can have a stronger impact.
The team will educate residents on the importance of avoiding stagnant water inside and outside their homes and in the vicinity. In case of necessity, the team will demonstrate appropriate techniques. Doctors, ward officers, sanitary inspectors, Swachha Sathi, Anganwadi workers, among others, will visit each home to create awareness.
Additionally, the Commissioner instructed the team to reach out to senior citizens of the respective wards, youth committees, Self Help Groups (SHGs), and school students to sensitize them about dengue prevention. Zonal deputy commissioners will closely monitor the process, and photographs will be taken and shared.
The BMC aims to collect data on the causes and remedies for the increase in dengue cases, identify hotspot areas for mosquito breeding, and seek opinions on implementing appropriate actions against the issue. Commissioner stressed zero dumping in Bhubaneswar, urging residents to click and share photos on social media if they witness anyone littering outside.
Furthermore, BMC will employ 15 fogging machines in each ward of the three zones for effective mosquito control. Areas with stagnant water will be sprayed with mosquito oil, and bushes will be trimmed to reduce mosquito breeding grounds.
The meeting witnessed the participation of Additional Commissioner II, Shri Subhendu Kumar Sahu, AD, UPHO Bhubaneswar, AD, UPHO VVD, doctors from primary community hospitals, health officers, zonal deputy commissioner, city health officers, sanitary inspectors, and other officials. BMC is committed to creating a dengue-free city and urges the public to support and actively participate in this crucial awareness campaign.
