PM Modi Urges BJP Leaders To Celebrate Raksha Bandhan With Muslim Women
New Delhi, August 3: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged BJP leaders to extend their outreach to Muslim women on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, which is being celebrated on August 30.
During a meeting with BJP-led NDA MPs from West Bengal, Odisha, and Jharkhand early this week, the PM along with other senior BJP leaders, highlighted the diverse development initiatives undertaken by the central government to benefit various segments of society, media reports said.
Addressing the MPs, the PM underscored the importance of connecting with every section of society and specifically mentioned the government's decision to criminalize the practice of instant divorce among Muslim men. The enactment of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill in 2019 rendered the practice of instant triple talaq illegal and subject to imprisonment for the husband.
Prime Minister Modi has consistently emphasized his government's commitment to empowering Muslim women through progressive reforms. In a recent 'Mann ki Baat' address, he commended the transformational change that allowed over 4,000 Muslim women to perform Haj without a 'mehram' this year.
He attributed this positive shift to the changes made by his government in the Haj policy over the past few years, enabling more individuals to undertake the annual pilgrimage.
