Imran Khan Convicted In Toshakhana Case, Sent To Jail
Islamabad, Aug 5: Former Pakistan Prime Minister and Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party Imran Khan has been convicted on charges of corruption in the Toshakhana case and has been sent to jail in dramatic developments.
An Islamabad trial court found Imran Khan guilty of indulging in "corrupt practices" in the Toshakhana case and also levied Rs 1 lakh as fine against him, news reports said. He stands disqualified from politics for five years.
Khan was arrested in Lahore following the court order and put in Kot Lakhpat Jail.
The Toshakhana case pertains to gifts he had retained as the PM and had later sold them off. The Toshakhana houses the gifts given to the top leadership of the country and government officials by heads of other governments and foreign dignitaries. The former PM was also accused of selling these gifts.
The Election Commission in Pakistan had earlier disqualified Imran Khan for making false statements and incorrect declarations about the gifts he had retained and made a profit out of them.
Imran Khan deliberately submitted fake details to the Election Commission of Pakistan and is found guilty of corrupt practices,” said the judge and sent Khan to jail for three years.
