No immediate reprieve from sultry weather conditions in Bhubaneswar, says IMD

Bhubaneswar, June 10: There will be no reprieve from the sultry weather conditions, that have left residents of the city restless and uncomfortable, in the coming days, IMD DG Mrutyunjay Mohapatra has said, blaming the ongoing condition on the approaching southwest monsoon.

Talking to the media on Saturday, he said that the hot days with high humidity and sweating are a result of the conditions that prevail before the arrival of the monsoon. At noon today, while the temperature in the city hovered around 36 degrees Celsius, the real feel was about 52 degrees, said popular weather app Accuweather. Several parts of Odisha are reeling under intense heat wave conditions, with the daytime temperature in Jharsuguda recorded on Friday was 45.6 degree Celsius.

Speaking about the monsoon, which generally sets in over around June 12, Mohapatra said it will take some more time to arrive in the state, though the conditions are favourable for the advance of the monsoon current in the southern parts of the country.

The monsoon had arrived in Kerala a week behind schedule and the weather department has not forecast yet about its arrival in Odisha. Some reports, though, suggest that the monsoon might hit the State between June 17 and 20.

According to the weather bulleting issued by IMD, conditions are favourable for further advancement of southwest monsoon into some more parts of Karnataka, Goa, and some more parts of Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.
