BMC's Swachhata Hi Seva Initiative Spurs Mass Cleanliness Drive in Capital City

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) successfully organised a massive cleanliness drive as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) initiative, covering 144 locations across 67 wards in the city. This event was carried out under the directives of Mayor Sulochana Das and Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange, ensuring meticulous execution in all zones.

Cleaning efforts were focused on key areas in each zone, resulting in the rejuvenation of Infosys Square in North Zone, Khaogali in Southeast Zone, and Kolathia Satyasai Enclave in Southwest Zone. Distinguished guests, including Hon'ble MLA Susant Routray, Mayor, and the Commissioner, actively participated in the cleanup drive in North Zone. Additional Commissioner Laxmikanta Sethi and zonal Deputy Commissioner  Purandar Nanda led the initiative. The event saw enthusiastic involvement from local corporators and citizens, making it a successful endeavour.

In Southwest Zone, prominent personalities like Odia cine artist Sabyasachi Mishra and Archita Sahu, along with Olympian Anuradha Biswal, joined the Mayor, Commissioner, and other officials to clean the surroundings behind Kendiya Vidyala at Khaogali. The cleanup initiative was initiated by zonal Deputy Commissioner Priyabrata Padhi and witnessed active participation from various stakeholders, including local corporators, self-help groups, students, youths, NGOs, and citizens. Kendriya Vidyalaya, St. Joseph High School, and Capital High School's scout and guide also contributed to this commendable effort.

Kolathia Satyasai Enclave area in the Southwest Zone also received a thorough cleaning under the leadership of Additional Commissioner Subhendu Sahu and zonal Deputy Commissioner Ravi Narayana Jethi. The programme commenced at 10 a.m. and continued till 11 a.m. 

This extensive cleanliness drive, involving local corporators, ward officers, Swachh Supervisors, Swachh Sathi, Safei Karmi, various clubs, NGOs, and Self-Help Groups, covered numerous locations across the city's 67 wards. Additionally, 60 places under Vending Zone Associations were cleaned. The collective efforts led to the collection of over 162 kg of plastic waste.

The Swachhata Hi Seva Initiative has played a pivotal role in mobilizing the community and increasing citizen awareness. The Mayor emphasized the significance of these initiatives in promoting citizen involvement and raising awareness among the public.

BMC Commissioner acknowledged the growing participation of citizens in sanitation activities and other various developmental projects, will justify the BhubaneswarFirst initiative.
