Kolkata College Demands Affidavit From Students Against 'Indecent' Clothing
Kolkata, Sept 4: Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose College (AJC Bose College) has asked the new undergraduate students to pledge not to wear what it deems as "indecent" clothing, specifically torn jeans, on campus. This dress code policy is part of the college's insistence on formal attire, as clearly stated in its admission notice on the website.
The principal of the college Purna Chandra Maity had issued a similar advisory against torn jeans the previous year. However, some students continued to wear such clothing, prompting a more assertive stance this year.
The principal stated that torn clothes are not appropriate for an educational institution, emphasizing the need for students to adhere to college rules and dress suitably for a formal setting.
Parents of the new students have also been asked to provide a declaration supporting the dress code policy. Both the student's affidavit and the parental undertaking are prerequisites for processing admission fee payments.
This dress code policy has generated controversy, with many students expressing their disagreement, citing concerns about restrictions on their freedom of expression.
