New Delhi, Aug 23: The Central Government on Wednesday announced to hold the board exams twice a year and students will be allowed to retain the best of the two results.

The announcement was made during the launch of the new curriculum framework for school education in keeping with the objectives of the National Education Policy of 2020, media reports said.

The intention is to make the board exams ‘easier’ from the current ‘high stakes’ practice. The examination will assess the understanding and achievement of competencies rather than months of coaching and memorisation, said news agency PTI.

Under the new academic measures, students will have the flexibility to select the subject of their choice that will not be stream-specific.

Students will be mandated to study two languages, one of which will be an Indian language.
