East Hostel Boarders Brave Rain, Agitate Against RU’s "Unilateral Decision & Hidden Agenda" 

Cuttack, September 2: Boarders of the historic East Hostel, the oldest hostel of Ravenshaw University (RU), are braving the rains as they stage a protest near the main entrance of RU, against ``unilateral decision’’ of the varsity authorities in suspending seven students from the hostel on grounds of ``disciplinary’’ action.

Terming the decision as ``unilateral and biased’’ students alleged that the authorities have taken the decision in a haste and there should have been a proper discussion with the students or least given them a chance to listen to ``their version of the story.’’

According to sources the students (boarders of East Hostel) had some issues with some employees and it snowballed into a major controversy, but the university authorities, without listening to both the sides, have taken a ``unilateral decision’’, which have disturbed the inmates and they were ``forced’’ to take the peaceful protest following the Gandhian principle and would do so until their issues are solved.

It is also came to the notice that the East Hostel Alumni Association, which was formed during the Centenary celebration of the heritage hostel during 2022 and the senior students of the body are also in touch with the students and would take up the matters through a general body meeting soon to help the agitating students ``get justice’’ and resolve the issue in a peaceful way. 

HIDDEN AGENDA? 

According to the inmates the agitation started earlier when the authorities demolished the study room without any information and the items from the gymnasium were thrown out and this year no first year students were given admission. The students smelt that there was something wrong and the authorities might be planning to close down the historic hostel, which they once tried, but failed miserably way back in 2009. Version of the university authorities was, however, not available, when contacted.
