BMC Bags Best Corporation Award for Transforming 135 Slums into Biju Adarsha Colony
Bhubaneswar, August 29: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has achieved a remarkable milestone by delimiting 135 slums and converting those settlements into Biju Adarsha Colony, that earned the distinction of being awarded the title of the best corporation in Odisha.
The prestigious award was presented by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik during a special ceremony held yesterday at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar. In alignment with the Odisha Government's initiative to grant land ownership to slum dwellers across urban areas, BMC facilitated the distribution of land ownership certificates to 51,000 slum residents within its jurisdiction. The ceremony marked a significant step towards empowering the urban population by ensuring secure land rights.
Among the five corporations in the state, BMC has secured the first position by successfully transforming 135 slums into the thriving Biju Adarsha Colony. The award was accepted by Mayor Sulochana Das, Commissioner Vijay Amrita Kulange, Additional Commissioner Laxmikant Sethi, City Engineer Arun Kumar Naik, and dedicated corporators in the presence of the Chief Minister.
Addressing the occasion, the BMC Commissioner emphasized that the land ownership campaign extends beyond the current program and will continue until October. The issuance of land right certificates to eligible beneficiaries, in accordance with government regulations, is an ongoing process.
During the statewide event held at Kalinga Stadium on yesterday, the Chief Minister personally handed out land rights certificates to 4,500 beneficiaries from the BMC area. Simultaneously, in BMC's three zonal offices, a total of 46,500 beneficiaries received their land rights certificates.
