PM Modi Bats For Uniform Civil Code
Bhopal, June 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday made a strong pitch for Uniform Civil Code, saying the move will benefit every class especially the marginalised sections among the Muslim community (Pasmanda Muslims) who have been discriminated against for a long time.
Addressing BJP booth workers across the country here, the PM said the Pasmanda Muslims are being used as a vote bank by the opposition parties for their political interest instead of addressing their issues and concerns.
“The lives of our Pasmanda Muslim brothers and sisters have been made hellish by those who do vote bank politics. They live a life of struggle. No one listens to them. They have been discriminated against so much, but there has been no debate on this. Even today, Pasmanda Muslims are not given an equal share. They are thought of as untouchables,” the PM said as quoted by the Indian Express.
"They have been discriminated against so much that several generations have had to suffer. But BJP will work for every citizen with the mindset of ‘sabka saath, sabka vikas’. When our booth workers will go with this mindset to Muslim brothers and sisters and help them understand, then all misunderstandings will be cleared,” Modi underlined.
The PM's strong pitch for Uniform Civil Code comes against the backdrop of the he 22nd Law Commission of India on June 14 seeking fresh suggestions from various stakeholders, including public and religious organisations, on the matter.
Referring to the meeting of the opposition parties held in Patna last week, the PM said they are allying before the elections as they are scared of the BJP returning to power. He accused the TMC and DMK of being involved in massive scams.
He said that opposition parties are also criticising the good works done by the government such as scrapping Triple Talaq. “If this was an important aspect of Islam, then why is it not there in Pakistan, Indonesia, Qatar, Jordon, Syria and Bangladesh?” Egypt, he said, has also removed the practice 80-90 years ago.
