Nestle’s Upcoming Khurda Unit To Produce Maggi Noodles, Chocolates and Confectioneries

Bhubaneswar, July 28: The upcoming manufacturing unit at Khurda by FMCG major Nestle with an investment of Rs 900 Cr will produce the popular Maggi noodles and then roll out chocolates and confectionary products in the later stage, the company’s Chairman and Managing Director Suresh Narayanan has said.

The Odisha factory is part of the company’s strategy to ramp up operation, augment capacity to meet the robust demand in the coming years, news agency PTI said quoting him.

“It's a fairly large kind of unit which we will be building there (Odisha)”, he said, adding that it will take about two years to set up the factory and begin operations.

Mr Narayanan said the factory, to begin with, will be producing noodles and then manufacture chocolates and confectionery products at a later stage. Nestle produces KitKat chocolate and Nescafe among its well-known products.

The company is spending Rs 4,200 crore between 2023 and 2025 for its expansion plan, out of which Rs 900 crore will be spend for a new factory in Khurda, he said.

Nestle’s proposal to set up the factory on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar was cleared by the State Level Single Window Clearance Authority (SLSWCA) in June this year. The unit will employ 827 people, a state government statement said.

The Odisha plant will also be a citadel of diversity with more than 50 per cent women operators, Mr Narayanan said.
