Doctors At Balangir Hospital Report To Duty Wearing Helmet; Find Out Why

Bhubaneswar, July 5: Doctors at a healthcare centre in Balangir district are reporting to duty wearing helmet to keep themselves safe from the falling ceiling plasters.

The matter has come to light after the local media highlighted the plight of the staff at the government-run centre Dhandamunda village under Khaprakhol block in Balangir district.

The building was constructed five years ago, but the quality of construction has put the administration to shame and exposed the rot in the system. What's more, it has posed a risk to the staff and the doctors who walk into the healthcare centre every morning to treat the patients.

"Top authorities are aware of the poor condition of the hospital building. Due to no maintenance, the building is turning unsafe," Dr Balakrushna Purohit was quoted as saying in the media.

A few days ago, patients at the medicine ward had a narrow escape when a patch of cement from the ceiling collapsed inside the ward. 

Evidently so, the dilapidated condition of the centre has triggered a sense of resentment among the residents who are solely dependent on it for treatment.
