Bhubaneswar, June 30: The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), which probed into the ghastly Balasore Rail Tragedy of June 2, has submitted its report to the Railway Ministry.

The probe was conducted in the aftermath of the train tragedy that has claimed 293 lives so far. Simultaneously, the CBI was also entrusted to investigate the cause of the accident. Several reports have claimed that the signalling system was tampered with that led to the tragedy.

The accident involved three trains on the fateful day when Chennai-bound Coromandal Express from Howrah accidentally took the loop line and slammed into stationery goods train from behind. Some of the coaches of the ill-fated train were tossed into the other line because of the impact and were hit by the Howrah-bound Yashwantpur Express coming from the opposite direction.

The nature of the accident triggered suspicion as the signal to Coromandal express was meant for the main line but the train route was set for the loop line, a proposition considered non-plausible unless the interlocking technology is tampered with.

Sources in the Railway Ministry confirmed the submission of the CRS report to the Ministry but refused to divulge further as CBI is also probing the matter.

Some of the injured are still under treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

On the other hand, 29 bodies are being handed over to their relatives following a DNA test. The bodies have been kept at AIIMS Bhubaneswar under controlled conditions.
