Bhubaneswar, August 13: In a significant step towards promoting cleanliness and waste management, the Sanitation & Hygiene Inspection for a Neat Environment (Team SHINE) was officially inaugurated today in the vibrant city of Bhubaneswar.

The inauguration ceremony was presided over by the esteemed presence of the Mayor, Sulochana Das, alongside notable guests including the Deputy Mayor,  Manjulata Kanhara, Police Commissioner, SK Priyadarshi, BMC Commissioner, Vijay Amruta Kulange, DCP BBSR, Pratik Singh, Standing Committee chairman, Additional Commissioner-I, Laxmikanta Sethi, Additional Commissioner-II, Subhendu Sahu, Additional Commissioner-III, Suryavanshi Mayur Vikash, DC-Sanitation, Dr Manoranjan Sahu, ZDC, Ravinarayana Jethi, Priyabrata Padhi, Purandar Nanda, Corporators, Team BMC, SI, ward officers, and members of Team SHINE.

The event emphasized the importance of fostering a strong sense of sanitation discipline and a profound commitment to waste management protocols within the community. Mayor, Sulochana Das, highlighted that the primary objective of Team SHINE is not to impose fines or instill fear among the citizens, but to nurture a collective responsibility towards a cleaner and healthier environment.

The event's essence lies in instigating a higher sanitation ethos among Bhubaneswar's residents and instilling a sense of ownership as the city strives to achieve the esteemed recognition of being the first in its category. The Chief Minister's message advocating for "Bhubaneswar First" further resonated with the mission of Team SHINE, aiming to elevate the city's livability index through cleanliness and community engagement.

Special guest, Police Commissioner, Saumendra Priyadarshi, assured steadfast support from the police team and underlined Bhubaneswar's status as a global leader in sanitation. He encouraged Team BMC to uphold this reputation and continue their exceptional sanitation work.

DCP Bhubaneswar, another honored guest, praised the innovative concept of Team SHINE and urged them to match the standards of developed cities through continuous dedication to sanitation. He reassured the collaborative support of the police force whenever required.

Team SHINE consists of 10 teams, each comprising 5-6 members, including Sanitary Inspectors (SIs) assigned to specific wards. SI & Team SHINE seamlessly align with BMC's overarching vision of prioritizing cleanliness and hygiene to elevate Bhubaneswar's status.

A solemn oath-taking ceremony was conducted, wherein members of Team SHINE pledged to uphold the city's cleanliness standards, promote community ownership, and actively contribute to a greener environment.

The oath also included commitments to avoid single-use plastics, practice patience and professionalism while enforcing regulations, and refrain from any form of force, threat, or inappropriate behavior.

Mayor Sulochana Das, emphasized the importance of community involvement in achieving Bhubaneswar's top-ranking status, urging Team SHINE to focus on transforming citizens' behavior through awareness rather than punitive measures.

To mark the occasion, a Vehicle March took place, covering key areas of the city, showcasing the collective commitment of Team SHINE in promoting sanitation and hygiene.
