Boon Time for US-Bound Passengers Travelling on Bhubaneswar-Abu Dhabi Flight; Read Here to Know Why?

Bhubaneswar, June 13: The newly inaugurated flight route between Bhubaneswar and Abu Dhabi is set to revolutionise travel for US-bound passengers from Odisha’s capital, offering a seamless and hassle-free journey thanks to Abu Dhabi’s unique US preclearance facility. Operated by IndiGo, this connecting flight via Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi allows passengers to clear US immigration, customs, and security checks before boarding their flight to the United States, saving hours of waiting time upon arrival.

The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) preclearance facility at Zayed International Airport, located in Terminal A, is one of only a handful worldwide, making Abu Dhabi a strategic gateway for international travelers. Passengers on Etihad Airways flights from Abu Dhabi to US destinations such as New York, Chicago, Washington DC, and Boston can complete all required US entry formalities in Abu Dhabi itself. This means that upon landing in the US, they are treated as domestic passengers, bypassing lengthy immigration queues and proceeding directly to baggage claim or connecting flights.

For passengers originating in Bhubaneswar, this service is a game-changer. The flight from Biju Patnaik International Airport to Abu Dhabi, with a minimum duration of 13 hours and 15 minutes including a layover, connects seamlessly with Etihad’s US-bound flights.

Since its inception in 2014, Abu Dhabi’s preclearance facility has processed over 325,000 passengers, with the new state-of-the-art setup in Terminal A enhancing the experience with face scanners, automated kiosks, and premium lounges. “The facility not only saves time but also reduces congestion at US airports, making Abu Dhabi an ideal transit hub for passengers from the Indian subcontinent,” said an Etihad Airways spokesperson.

For Bhubaneswar residents, the new route also opens up economic and cultural opportunities. Bhubaneswar, known as the “Temple City of India,” is a growing hub for IT and education, with increasing travel demand to the US. The flight, bookable at fares starting at ₹13,488 through IndiGo, offers daily connectivity and attractive discounts, making it accessible for students, professionals, and families.
