Bhubaneswar 9th Cleanest City in India in Swachh Survekshan 2024-25

Bhubaneswar, July 17: In a moment of pride for Odisha, Bhubaneswar has been ranked the 9th cleanest city in India in the prestigious Swachh Survekshan 2024-25, marking a significant leap from its 34th position in the previous year.

The announcement was made today during the 9th edition of the Central Government’s annual cleanliness survey, with President Droupadi Murmu presenting the awards at a ceremony in New Delhi.

The Swachh Survekshan 2024-25, conducted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, evaluated cities across various population categories, with Bhubaneswar excelling in the 3–10 lakh population segment.

The city’s remarkable achievement was also recognized with the title of “Promising Swachh Shehar of Odisha,” highlighting its consistent efforts in promoting cleanliness and sanitation under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban (SBM-U).

“We’re thrilled! Bhubaneswar’s rise to the Top 10 cleanest cities is a proud moment for all of us,” said Sulochana Das, Mayor of Bhubaneswar, in a statement shared on X.

“Heartfelt thanks to our incredible Team BMC, especially the sanitation workers who keep our city shining, and every citizen who made this possible,” she added, urging residents to aim even higher in future rankings.

The city’s success is attributed to robust waste management systems, community-driven cleanliness drives, and innovative urban sanitation initiatives.

The Swachh Survekshan awards also recognised other cities for their exemplary performance. Indore retained its title as India’s cleanest city for the eighth consecutive year, followed by Surat and Navi Mumbai in the “Super Swachh League” category for cities with populations over 10 lakh.

In the 3–10 lakh population category, Noida secured the top spot, with Chandigarh and Mysuru ranking second and third, respectively.
