Senior BJD Leader Pinaki Misra ties Knot With Firebrand TMC MP In Germany; More Here

Bhubaneswar, June 5: Senior Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader and former Member of Parliament (MP) Pinaki Misra has married sitting Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra in a discreet ceremony held in Germany. The wedding, which reportedly took place couple of days ago, was kept under wraps, with neither party's leadership aware until the news surfaced publicly.

The Telegraph, a prominent Kolkata-based publication, published a photograph online capturing the couple sharing a light-hearted moment post their nuptials, believed to be taken in Berlin. The image has since circulated widely on social media, sparking discussions and reactions across political and public domains.

Pinaki Misra, 65, a seasoned politician and senior advocate, represented the Puri constituency in Odisha from 2009 until 2024. He was succeeded by Sambit Patra following the 2024 general elections. Mahua Moitra, 50, known for her articulate speeches and firm stance on various issues, currently serves as the MP for Krishnanagar, West Bengal. She was re-elected in the 2024 elections after a brief expulsion from the Lok Sabha in December 2023 due to a 'cash-for-query' controversy.

The union of Misra and Moitra has been the subject of political speculation in the past, especially during the 'cash-for-query' controversy, where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alleged a close association between the two. Misra had vehemently denied these allegations, threatening legal action against the BJP for what he termed as "false and malicious" claims.

As of now, there has been no official statement from either the BJD or TMC regarding the marriage.
