Watch: Bengaluru Auto Driver Breaks Down; Earns Only Rs 40 In 5 Hrs
Bengaluru, June 28: The free bus ride for women introduced by the new Congress government in Karnataka may have become an instant hit with the commuters, but the decision has left a section sulking.
The move has delivered a big blow, especially, to the auto-rickshaw drivers in the city. A video is circulating on social media where an auto driver is seen breaking down narrating that he could earn only Rs 40 in five hours. He is seen flashing two Rs 20 notes in regret saying that between 8 AM to 1 PM, he could earn only this much.
The video has garnered over 1600 likes and 1000 retweets, with the social media users remaining divided in their opinions.
"I feel they deserve it. Recently an auto driver was asking me for Rs 200 from Church Street to Chalukya Hotel. Auto drivers have become so greedy especially in Bangalore," Twitted a user.
But another user associated herself with the emotions of the auto driver.
“This is a huge concern. Women who can afford auto-rickshaws being allowed free bus rides disrupts the economic balance of the state. Stability can only come back after a large chunk of autorickshaws go out of the streets and their drivers find alternate avenues of earning,” she said.
