The UGC, being the apex authority for higher education in India, has raised concerns about these institutions jeopardizing the future of unsuspecting students. According to the UGC, these fake universities lack the necessary qualifications to issue valid degree certificates. The commission has warned students and parents to exercise caution while selecting an educational institution for higher education. The list of fake universities includes eight in Delhi, four in Uttar Pradesh, two each in West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh, and one each in Pondicherry, Maharashtra, Kerala, and Karnataka.

To combat this issue, the UGC has requested everyone to cross-check the authenticity of universities and educational institutions through their official website (www.ugc.ac.in) before enrolling in any academic program. This move is aimed at empowering students with accurate information and preventing them from falling prey to deceptive practices. In case any university or educational institution is found to be offering academic programs in violation of the UGC Act, the commission encourages individuals to report such instances by sending an email to [email protected]. With this timely warning and proactive measure, the UGC aims to safeguard the interests of students and ensure a transparent and reliable higher education system in the country. Students are advised to remain vigilant and take informed decisions to secure a promising future.
