South West Monsoon Arrives In Odisha
Bhubaneswar, June 22: The South West Monsoon arrived in Odisha on Thursday, almost 10 days after its normal onset date, causing widespread rainfall along the coastal belt.
The onset of the monsoon ended the period of intense heat wave conditions that swept the State, causing immense discomfort to the people and prolonged power cuts.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon has covered some parts of the State, along with some parts of Jharkhand, West Bengal and Bihar. The northern limit of the monsoon is passing through Malkangiri and Paralakhemundi in Odisha. It said that conditions are favourable for covering the entire State in the next 2-3 days.
Isolated heavy rainfall is expected in Odisha till June 26 and very heavy rainfall across the State between June 23 and 25.
On the other hand, the capital city witnessed heavy rain accompanied by lightning this afternoon. Several low-lying areas were submerged under knee-deep water. The city received 90.4 mm of rainfall till 2.30 PM
