Mumbai, Aug 31: A 14-year-old boy in the city, lost his life after battling with a combination of dengue, malaria, and leptospirosis infections, media reports said.

Dr. Girish Rajadhyaksha, a senior medical professional, acknowledged the rarity of being simultaneously infected by all three diseases. He said that although such a scenario is not impossible, it is an exceedingly uncommon phenomenon. The doctor highlighted that timely medical intervention could have potentially saved the boy's life.

The boy initially fell ill with a fever earlier in the month, yet instead of seeking professional medical care, he opted to receive treatment from a local faith healer for nearly seven days. On August 14, he finally consulted a physician at the state-operated Kasturba Hospital. Subsequent tests at the hospital confirmed his positive status for both dengue and malaria. In an unexpected turn, further testing also revealed that he had contracted leptospirosis.

Despite efforts to address his deteriorating condition, the young boy's health declined, prompting his transfer to Nair Hospital in Mumbai Central. Stricken by severe lung complications that led to acute respiratory distress, he had to be placed on a ventilator. Additionally, his creatinine levels were noted to be alarmingly high, as stated in the report.

Despite the medical team's strenuous endeavors to manage his escalating symptoms, combat the infections, and address the failure of multiple organs, the boy sadly passed away within three days of his admission to the hospital.
