Heavy Rain Brings Life To Standstill In Twin Cities
Bhubaneswar, July 15: Heavy rain lashed the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack on Saturday morning, inundating low-lying areas, major thoroughfares and throwing life out of gear.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Cuttack recorded 42 mm rainfall and Bhubaneswar 14 mm rainfall till 8.30 AM. The heavy downpour is being attributed to the active monsoon trough over the State.
Twin cities apart, several districts also received heavy rainfall since early Saturday morning. Paradip recorded the highest rainfall till 8.30 AM, recording 105 mm rainfall.
As per IMD, heavy rainfall activity will be witnessed in the State for the next two to three days. A cyclonic circulation is also likely to form during this period.
The Capital city of Bhubaneswar woke up sporadic rainfall activity, which gradually increased, causing inundation of many low-lying areas. Heavy traffic was witnessed on the Jayadev Vihar-Nandankanan stretch because of the rising water level.
City Mayor Sulochana Das visited several places and took stock of the situation. Talking to the media, she said all the departments are coordinating with each other to mitigate the situation arising out of the torrential downpour.
