Rath Yatra 2025: Vibrant Celebrations Unite Devotees in New York and Beyond

In a dazzling display of faith and culture, the annual Jagannath Rath Yatra, illuminated the streets of New York City and several other cities worldwide. 

Since the late 1960s, the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) has globalised this tradition, transforming it into a vibrant celebration of devotion and community in over 100 cities, including New York, Houston, and Toronto. 

In New York City, the Rath Yatra, organized by ISKCON, captivated onlookers as it processed down the iconic Fifth Avenue, a tradition dating back to 1976. 

Beyond New York, cities across the United States embraced the Rath Yatra with equal fervour. In Fremont, California, the Fremont Temple will host its celebration later today. Houston’s annual Rath Yatra, is also due today. 

Internationally, the Rath Yatra’s global reach is evident in cities like Toronto and London, where the event is morphed into a multiculturalism spiritual sojourn, complete with traditional fervour. Toronto’s festival, held at Centre Island, stands out for incorporating performances by Indigenous groups alongside traditional Hindu rituals, creating a unique blend of cultural exchange. 

London’s Rath Yatra, which began in 1969, saw devotees parade from Marble Arch to Trafalgar Square, continuing a legacy initiated by early ISKCON pioneers.
