This Bank’s Cryptic Jab at Vijay Mallya Over RCB’s IPL Win Sparks Social Media Frenzy, Read Here For More

Bengaluru, June 5, 2025: The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally ended their 18-year wait for an Indian Premier League (IPL) title, defeating Punjab Kings by six runs in a thrilling final at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on June 3, 2025.
As fans erupted in celebration and social media turned into a sea of red, one unexpected reaction stole the show—a cheeky post from the State Bank of India (SBI) directed at fugitive businessman and RCB’s former owner, Vijay Mallya, that left the internet in splits.
Mallya, who founded RCB in 2008 and is now a fugitive living in London, took to X to celebrate the team’s historic victory.
“RCB are IPL Champions finally after 18 years. Superb campaign right through the 2025 tournament. A well balanced team Playing Bold with outstanding coaching and support staff. Many congratulations! Ee sala cup namde!!” he posted, invoking the iconic Kannada phrase that has long been RCB’s rallying cry. In a follow-up, he added, “When I founded RCB it was my dream that the IPL trophy should come to Bengaluru. I had the privilege of picking the legendary King Kohli as a youngster… Finally, the IPL trophy arrives in Bengaluru.”
However, Mallya’s nostalgic posts quickly drew a sharp response from SBI, the bank leading a consortium that claims Mallya owes over ₹9,000 crore in unpaid loans tied to his defunct Kingfisher Airlines. In a now-viral reply, SBI’s official X account posted, “Sir, come to India. We will celebrate together.”
The tongue-in-cheek comment, dripping with sarcasm, referenced Mallya’s decade-long absence from India, where he faces charges of financial fraud and money laundering. Indian authorities have been pursuing his extradition from the UK since he fled in 2016, so far without success.
The internet wasted no time turning SBI’s reply into a meme fest. Harsh Goenka, chairman of RPG Enterprises, amplified the hilarity by sharing SBI’s post, adding, “That’s why I like X,” with a laughing emoji, garnering thousands of likes and retweets. Other users piled on, with one commenting, “Vijay Mallya celebrating RCB’s win from London while SBI celebrates his tweet from India!” Some even roasted Mallya for posting on a non-bank holiday, a nod to earlier trolling about his social media activity patterns.
