BMC Plantation Drive to Mark 74th Van Mahotsav
Bhubaneswar, July 8: Keeping alive the spirit of its own slogan ``Clean and Green City'' and to promote environmental awareness among the masses,the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) celebrated the plantation of saplings on the auspicious occasion of "Van Mahotsav."
The plantation program took place at Badagad High School, marking the 74th Van Mahotsav. The event witnessed the presence of esteemed guests, including Minister of SSEPD & Science and Technology
In a concerted effort to promote environmental awareness and create a greener city, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) celebrated the plantation of saplings on the auspicious occasion of "Bana Mahotsav." The plantation program took place at Badagad High School, marking the 74th Van Mahotsav. The event witnessed the presence of esteemed guests, including SSEPD & Science and Technology Minister Ashok Chandra Panda, MLA Bhubaneswar (central) Ananta Narayana Jena, Mayor Sulochana Das, Deputy Mayor Manjulata Kanhara,local corporator Ajit Behera, BMC Commissioner, Vijay Amruta Kulange, Additional Commissioner, Suryavanshi Mayur Vikash, zonal deputy Commissioner, students, teachers, local self-help groups, and Swachh Sathis.
Following the devastating cyclone in 1999, Bhubaneswar's greenery suffered significant damage. In response, the government has consistently emphasized the importance of plantation programs. On the occasion of the 74th Van Mahotsav, the school campus was adorned and a plantation program was conducted to promote a sustainable future. The Minister announced plans to extend such initiatives to other schools as well.
BMC remains committed to improving the quality of life for citizens through various endeavors, including sanitation, urban planning, city beautification, and plantation programs. Yesterday's plantation program aimed to engage the community and raise children's awareness of the environment and climate. The Mayor expressed confidence that this initiative would serve as an inspiration to all.
During the programme, a variety of tree saplings, such as Spanish cherry, Neem tree, Pongame oiltree, and Java Plum, were planted in the school campus. All the saplings were provided by the forest division. The BMC has further resolved to continue plantation drives in schools, parks, and other areas.
