Seven Products From Odisha on the GI Race, Notified on Registry Journal

Bhubaneswar: Good news for Odisha and Odias as seven products from the State are notified in the Geographical Indications (GI) Journal by the Chennai based National Registry on GI Certification and it might take 5 to 6 months to see them with the GI tags.

According to the GI Journal seven products from Odisha in include Odisha Khajuri Guda, Dhenkanal Magji Laddu, Similarly Kai Chutney, Nayagarh Kanteimundi Brinjal, Dongria Kondh Embroidery Shawl, Koraput Kalajeera rice and Lanjia Saura painting. 

All the Odisha products are listed under the categories of Food, Handicrafts and Agriculture. Once they are published in the GI Registry Journal and there is no objection from anyone regarding the claims therein, GI tag would be conferred on the same, as per the procedure.

The products were added to the GI registry list by Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology, Government agencies and socio cultural organisations.
